06 Mar Comparing Laser and Inkjet Printers
Your office needs the right equipment and supplies to get work done and satisfy your customers or clients. If you’re in need of a new printer, you might gravitate toward a laser printer. Laser printers have long been used in offices, while inkjets are generally used in the home. However, there are some exceptions. Inkjet technology has dramatically improved in recent years, and certain businesses may benefit from having both options available.
Print Quality
In terms of print quality, there are two main categories to consider: Text quality and image quality. Laser printers still beat inkjet printers when it comes to producing crisp, clean text. However, inkjet printers have the upper hand for photo printing. If your business needs to print photos on marketing materials, you might consider buying or leasing both an inkjet and a laser printer.
Print Speed
Inkjet printers have long been slower than laser printers, but they have actually started catching up. Not that long ago, the fastest inkjet printers had a max print speed of about 10 ppm for color and 30 ppm for black and white. This can’t compare to a laser printer’s 70 ppm. However, some of the newest models of inkjet printers feature print heads that extend the entire width of a standard sheet of paper, enabling them to reach speeds comparable to that of a laser printer’s. Note, however, that inkjet printers still take longer to “wake up” and start printing than their laser counterparts.
Print Workloads
If your business needs to print thousands of pages each month, then a laser printer is definitely the right choice for you. Laser printers are workhorses that have a high capacity and exceptional
durability. However, if your business only needs a few hundred pages printed each month, an inkjet may be able to handle your workload at a lower cost.
